Homemade Ice Cream

I’ve always wanted to make ice cream at home but just haven’t-I don’t have an attachment for my KitchenAid yet-wahh!! For the little months of summer we get around here, I just couldn’t justify it.  But we’ve been having warm weather around here lately, so when I saw this recipe, I was really excited to try it.  It’s easy and stress free-also very cheap to make!  This ice cream is super creamy and delicious.  It’s hard not to eat it all in one sittingJ  Plus you can add whatever you like to it-chocolate, caramel, extracts….anything your heart desires!  I think I will definitely play around with combinations in the future.

DIY: Roasted Apple Butter

We’ve had a surplus of apples in the house lately & I've hardly baked with them.  I am trying to remedy this, and I think apple butter is a good place to start.  Apple butter came onto my radar a couple weeks ago, and I am so glad that it did.  It’s SO good.  I love it on toast, and I imagine it would be good in a sandwich..mmmhm yum.  It’s not butter.  It’s LIKE butter, but it’s not.  It’s a concentrated version of applesauce on crack.  It’s a no brainer, right?

Chai Tea: The Slow-Cooker Way

Chai Tea is another of my favorite drinks.  I remember the 1st time Marlina and I ordered it-we were in grade 9 and decided it was high time to splurge on this drink everyone talked about.  Truth to be told, we didn’t really care for it at first but eventually grew to love it.  So happy that our taste buds changed!

Cran-Raspberry Juice

I’m sure by now everyone knows how excited I am about the Christmas holiday fast approaching.  I love this time of year-the excessive amounts of baking (and blogging!), lights shining, Christmas tree hunting (soon!), shopping and most importantly, time spent with family.  Gavin, Marlina and I are putting on Christmas dinner this year.  Although I am super excited by this, I am also really nervous.  I hope we are organized enough to pull this off!  Feel free to double this recipe if you are serving for a large crowd! :)

Creamy Caramel Sauce

I have never been a fan of caramel sauce.  I kind of thought I was weird.  Until one day I decided to make my own, and my opinion changed.  I can’t believe the difference from the store-bought ones!  I love the creamy smooth taste it has and subtle hint of vanilla.  I find caramel sauce perfect for a sweet craving-such as dipping fruit in it and smothering the top of ice cream.  The possibilities are endless!

Pumpkin Pie Spice

As I mentioned in my previous post, I’ve accepted our early start of fall.  Of course, it unofficially started here in the beginning of September.  And coincidently, the first official day of fall lands on our birthday!  We are so excited; I’m compiling a list of birthday cakes while Marlina get’s to choose.  Hopefully she can come this year to celebrate-it would be so awesome to see her!

Pumpkin Spice Syrup for Pumpkin Spiced Latte's

It’s (unofficially) fall around here, and now that I’ve finally embraced the cool mornings, I’m starting to get excited about the change in season.  The afternoons have been especially nice here-sunny, warm and absolutely beautiful.  This definitely helps with the transition.  I love watching the leaves change color, and fall to the ground.  The other day I spoiled myself with a Pumpkin Spiced Latte (abbrev. PSL’s!) from Starbucks and I couldn’t be happier.  It’s the small things that can make a person happy-you know?

Meyer Lemon Curd

I love lemons.  I love using them in baking, (ie. my Lemon Blueberry Scones) and in cooking.  My friend Bobbi came into town last week, and surprised me with some Meyer Lemons.  I’ve never tried them before due to the fact that they are impossible to find in Northern BC, so if anyone knows where to get them-tell me!  I will forever be grateful. And let me tell you now, I am officially converted.  I didn’t know this before, but this citrus is a cross between a lemon and an orange.  They originate from China, where they are grown in garden pots as an ornamental tree-interesting right? I wonder if they would grow in BC...
